A Space For The Unbound

Game development in our region is slowly growing into a substantial force & A Space For The Unbound is a wonderful example of that progress. Emanating from Indonesia A Space For The Unbound is unapologetic in its depiction of their culture as it delivers a compelling narrative.

Following high-school sweethearts, Atma & Raya, A Space For The Unbound sees the player embarking on a journey with the duo as they complete a bucket list of experiences before they graduate. However, there is more than meets the eye when it comes to this loveable pair. We quickly learn that Raya has some mystical space-bending abilities which will see her & Atma encountering weredogs, "space diving" into other people's subconsciousness & eventually investigating an ominous crack in the sky that threatens to tear their world asunder.

A Space For The Unbound is a 2D side-scroller with a nostalgic & cute anime-inspired, pixel-art style. Gameplay wise it leans heavily into the puzzle adventure genre which will see you talking to a range of characters & interacting with a plethora of objects to solve puzzles. The biggest element that makes A Space For The Unbound stand out is the concept of "space diving" which allows Atma to enter into the minds, hearts & subconsciousness of other characters to help them overcome their traumas & troubles.

Through this "space diving" concept A Space For The Unbound is able to explore some very complex & deep themes. Concepts such as bully, anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, self-discovery & conforming to societal norms A Space For The Unbound is a much deeper game than it appears to be at first glance.

In saying all of this though delivering the narrative is core to the experience of A Space For The Unbound. Players will not be overwhelmed with crazy difficulty spikes or complex controls. When you have the game in your hand it's a very simple experience, which works to service the delivery & absorption of the narrative.

A Space For The Unbound is a very special atmospheric & nostalgic experience that makes it a must-play on the Nintendo Switch if you want a cozy, simple game to play & relax with.
