Halloween Ends

Halloween Ends finally brings the long-running cat & mouse game of Laurie Strode & Michael Myers to an end.

Taking place a few years after the events of 2018's Halloween & 2021's Halloween Kills once again follows Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode. With Michael seemingly disappearing following the events of Halloween Kills Laurie attempts to move on with her life.

Laurie is processing her trauma in Halloween Ends by writing a memoir of her many brushes with evil. Although perhaps in doing so she is slowly being consumed by her obsession with evil. A fact that becomes more pronounced as we meet the townspeople of Haddonfield. Laurie & her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) are persistently abused by residents who blame Laurie for bestowing Michael's evil upon them.

In an attempt to counteract this hatred Laurie sets Allyson up with Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell). Corey has also been shunned by Haddonfield after he was falsely accused of murdering a child he was babysitting.

Oh yeah, & this entire time Michael is still nowhere to be seen!

When Michael does finally show he acts as somewhat of a catalyst for the evil lurking inside Corey to come to the surface. Something which Laurie, through years of prior experience, had begun to sense.

For this reason, Halloween Ends doesn't feel like it belongs in the Halloween universe. The film attempts to lean into an idea that the recent films alluded to - that being that Michael is a supernatural entity. However, it fails to give this any true depth, exploration or explanation.

We also see Michael working alongside Corey during a major killing spree. Again, something that doesn't true to the core of Halloween.

On the slasher & gore front, Halloween Ends has some outstanding moments. These aren't enough though to overcome the incredibly mediocre writing.

Halloween Ends is by far the worst film in the rebooted trilogy - a trilogy that has progressively gone downhill after the heights of the 2018 entry.
