Leah Kate

Chatting to emerging pop-rock superstar Leah Kate quickly went from a light-hearted, bubbly conversation about music to a deep, emotional chat about mental health & empowerment. A pivot that was rather poetic in just how closely it echoed Leah's music style.

So, in this article, we're going skip the normal structure of introducing you to the artist & instead dive right into the meat of the conversation. Don't worry though, we'll circle back to Leah's early years to close out the piece.

During our conversation, Leah spoke very openly & candidly, "I lived my biggest dream this year but also hit my lowest of lows." Rather than shy away from her emotions, Leah used them as inspiration to spur on a creative burst that led to her new EP, Alive & Unwell

As Leah explained to Pario, "writing starts as therapy for me, but ideally if it can heal other people as well then I have done my job."

Across the 8 tracks of Alive & Unwell there was a consistent theme to the songwriting according to Leah.

"I was trying to make light of the fact that your life isn't always going to be perfect. So it's ok not to be ok sometimes because we all hit our lows & still need to continue on."

For Leah, her song Hot All The Time was the epitome of this theme because she said it, "really sums up everything that I've wanted to say." What makes this EP & Leah's music in general so special though is that she doesn't simply unleash her sadness onto the world. Instead, Leah always frames her songs as empowering anthems.

"My lyrics are very in your face & brutally honest, but in a way that is empowering & allows you to feel great in your own skin & confident in yourself."

It's perhaps for this very reason that Leah has quickly made a very strong connection with her fans. Fans who often leave comments on her music & social media posts saying, "thank you, this is like therapy" or "you got me through a break-up" or "you saved me".

Finding Her Passion & Her Meaning In Life

Now that we know why Leah was placed on this earth we must go back to discover how she found her path.

"I started singing when I was 3 years old," Leah said. "My brother was a music producer as well, so we had a little home music studio & would make music together from the time I was 10 years old."

Once Leah was able to charter her own course through music she found her true passion, pop-rock.

"When I was really young I loved Britney, Christina, & Justin," she recalled. "Then I started to like people like Blink-182, Avril, Gwen, OutKast, & Madonna - people who probably had more influence over my sound now."
