Slasher: Flesh & Blood

Slasher has crept its way over to streaming service Shudder for season 4 of the anthology series’ bloody & gruesome tales. In case you don't already know each season of Slasher follows a mysterious masked killer with an unknown motive for killing their victims.

This season of Slasher is centred around the Galloway family, a dysfunctional family who has built their wealth off the back of a shipping empire. The Galloway's are requested to gather on a secluded island for a reunion at the bequest of the family patriarch. Upon their arrival on the island competitive rivalries are rekindled when Spencer Galloway (David Cronenberg) announces that they are to compete in a series of challenges in order to become the sole heir to the Galloway fortune. Little does Spencer or the rest of the Galloway family know there is simultaneously a serial killer picking players off one by one.

Plot wise Slasher feels very similar to 2019's Ready Or Not starring Samara Weaving. Slasher incorporates more of a horror, and unsurprisingly, slasher-style elects into it's portrayal of the story.

After watching the first 2 episodes of the series it is safe to say that the second episode is the stronger of the two. The premier episode is slow and meandering as it introduces the viewer to each of the characters. In episode 2 however, the gore ramps up and the mystery behind the masked killer deepens. Upon completion of episode two I was locked in to know more and will be continuing to watch.

Warning, if you have a squeamish stomach this wont be the show for you. Many of the gruesome murders and 'accidents' are visceral and graphic, akin to a Saw movie.
