A Fire Inside

Back before Australia was ambushed by COVID-19, and the ensuing lockdowns, we were fighting another menacing battle - bushfires. The summer of 2019-2020, which has now been dubbed 'Black Summer', was a nationwide nightmare. A nightmare which for the volunteer fighters is one which continues to this day.

The new documentary A Fire Inside recalls some of the heroic efforts, and the terrifying ordeals, the RFS volunteers endured during the black summer. Safely for many of the fire fighters the pain didn't end when he flames were extinguished, with many still suffering emotional trauma to this day.

Mixing footage from the fire front with the personal tales of heroism, loss, grief and trauma A Fire Inside is simultaneously compelling, uplifting and heartbreaking.

To hear these stories directly from the volunteers and see the pain they continue to endure makes this a must watch for all Australians. These men and women truely are heroes and this film does their stories justice.

Next time you see an RFS volunteer simply say thank you, it will mean the world to them.
