April Dimovitch
When we think of creative people we immediately jump to musicians, filmmakers, & artists. But there is one group that we encounter regularly who do some of the most creative work around. We even entrust our bodies to these people. Hair stylist April Dimovitch is one such person.
Five years ago, in May of 2016, April took the huge leap & purchased the hair salon where she had been working as an apprentice for 3 years prior. Making that decision in the early stages of her career was obviously difficult & daunting, but when the opportunity presented itself April said she simply couldn't pass up the chance to make her dream become a reality.
"When my old boss put the salon up for sale I thought that was a great opportunity to create my own space & bring my dream to life. I had a vision for the space & knew I could make something more of it. So that drove me to make it great!"
April's vision for Bulli Studio was to create a down-to-earth salon experience where the clients are treated like family or friends in a space that is as close to a one-stop shop for all things beauty as you can get.
"At the end of the day, we just want everyone to be happy & to feel good! We offer lashing, waxing & nail services in the salon, which I think is great as a one-stop shop."
Reflecting on where the passion for beauty & hair arose April says it all developed thanks to her school work experience program. That program let her realise that hair styling was her calling because because it combined "creativity with physical work" & also allowed her to explore the "girly side" of her personality.
Once she chose to head down the hair styling path April completed several professional training courses, & even continues to expand her skills to this day.
"I have my certificates 2 & 3 in hairdressing. I have done multiple creative colour, cutting & styling courses through Haircare Australia & De Lorenzo. This year I'm studying barbering at a workshop in Sydney which should be fun!"
It's not just on the creative side that April continues to train in though, she is also hard at work on improving her business skills, "I have my certificate 4 in business that I completed in 2019, & I continue to do more training in social media, business, & marketing to help evolve my business."
Perhaps the most rewarding part of owning Bulli Salon for April though is the ability to provide like-minded creatives with opportunities to pursue their passion.
"It’s so special to me that I can help my team become the best stylists they possibly can be & to allow them to earn money, branch out & learn every day."
