Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

James Gunn's time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ends where it began, with his intergalactic group of misfits The Guardians Of The Galaxy. Given that this is somewhat of a farewell entry for the trilogy, unsurprisingly, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives with a much more sombre & dark tone.

Throughout the Guardians trilogy, we've been treated to the backstories of every member of the group, bar one. While we've seen allusions to the origin of Rocket Racoon we haven't heard the full story, until now. It is here where Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 takes a very dark, heartbreaking & incredibly disturbing turn due to the implications of animal experimentation & torture.

Rocket's origin acts as the core of the story in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 with the journey for the remainder of the cast coalescing in orbit around it. During their epic galaxy-spanning adventure to do what's right for the universe whilst also saving their beloved friend we witness a great deal of growth for all of the characters. Nebular, Gamora, Drax, Mantis & Starlord all come to realise their weaknesses while the others come to appreciate all of their strengths, even if said strengths are not initially obvious.

Visually Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is a true spectacle that sees the MCU return to the glory days of old. The depiction of young Rocket & his first group of misfit friends is astounding. Late in the film viewers also witness one of the most epic one-shot hallway fight scenes since Daredevil on Netflix.

Ultimately Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is a return to form with an MCU story that revolves around love, obsession & doing what's right for the greater good. As we mentioned this is an emotionally charged & deeply triggering film, particularly if animal cruelty is a sensitive topic, so be forewarned before heading to the cinema to see this epic conclusion to the trilogy.
