Leigh Livingstone (Popcorn Podcast With Leigh & Tim)

When someone claims to have seen a single movie in the cinema 13 times it is clear that they were destined to pursue film as a career path.

This is precisely what entertainment journalist/podcast host Leigh Livingstone has done since attending 13 screenings of the "groundbreaking" Lord Of The Rings. Most recently, Leigh has been working as one half of Popcorn Podcast With Leigh & Tim alongside co-host Tim Iffland.

The idea for Popcorn Podcast first came to Leigh in 2019 when her previous employer held a series of seminars about the burgeoning medium of podcasting.

"I thought podcasting would be a good way for me to learn some new skills, stretch my creativity, & be able to do what I love - which is talk about movies," Leigh told Pario, before explaining how Tim came to be a part of the show. "Back in the day when Tim was at his first job at McDonald's I was his manager & we bonded over our shared love of movies. Then life happened & we drifted apart. But once it came time to start the podcast, Tim was the first person in the front of my mind that I wanted to host it with, & he is a fantastic co-host."

From there the challenge of establishing Popcorn Podcast & developing a business began. A process that has required Leigh & Tim to overcome two very different challenges.

In the beginning, both Leigh & Tim were working full-time, which meant that it was difficult to juggle the necessary time commitments required to foster a growing fan base. Then the global pandemic hit, meaning life slowed down & the duo now had a little more time on their hands. But with that came the closure of cinemas, the podcast's main focus.

"When that happened we had to pivot & get a little creative. Obviously, because we couldn't celebrate the cinemas & the big screen experience we had to focus on the movies which would have been released in the cinema but were now having a home release."

While the pandemic devastated much of the film industry globally Leigh did notice some benefits, particularly for Australian films.

"Australian film had a great chance to shine last year...  There wasn't so much noise from the international releases, so the Australian gems had a chance to shine."

Looking ahead, Leigh said listeners can expect more "bite-sized & salty" 15-20 minute episodes, as well as some very exciting bonus interview episodes with big-name guests.
