Natalie Bassingthwaighte
An orchestra & dance music are typically not elements that you would pair together. However, Synthony does just that, & in doing so delivers audiences an incomparable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
In its prior outings, this show has brown audiences away but for Synthony No. 3 the show has been elevated to an even higher level. Synthony No. 3 will welcome into its rank Australian superstars Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Thandi Phoenix, Ilan Kidron, Greg Gould, Cassie McIvor & more.
Recently Pario had the opportunity to chat with Nat Bassingthwaighte about her journey with music & why she so desperately wanted to be part of Synthony No. 3. As we began our conversation with Nat it quickly became evident why Synthony No. 3 was such a natural fit.
"Music has always felt really comfortable for me," explained Nat. "Listening to music & feeling the vibrations through my body, whether that was through dance or singing, felt like such an emotive thing for me."
For this very reason accepting the opportunity to perform dance music tracks, which are characterised by their driving beats, with a full-scale 60-piece orchestra was a no-brainer.
"Synthony is totally a physical & emotional experience," said Nat excitedly. "It takes me back to why I wanted to get involved in music in the first place, which was to feel something!"
When asked how she described the show Nat said, "To perform with an orchestra is such a beautiful thing, but then to see it come together with this extravagant light show & DJs it blew my mind. It's like this big dance party with an orchestra. I wanted to be a part of that so much... I don't think anybody has experienced a show quite like this."
Yet another reason this show was such a natural fit for Nat was her previous experience in the electronic rock band, Rogue Traders. Best known for their single, Voodoo Child, Rogue Traders have been forced on the Australian music scene for over 2 decades now. So it would come as no surprise that Voodoo Child was at the top of Nat's must-perform list. However, as Nat explained to Pario performing with Synthony also provided her with an opportunity to rediscover her love of music.
"After you have kids you listen to whatever they want to listen to. So I think I forgot for a while there to really open my mind to different music tastes. Now as I come back into my own I'm rediscovering music again in a beautiful way."
During her music renaissance, Nat found 2 other songs that were must haves alongside Voodoo Child for Synthony.
"I really wanted to do Temper Trap's Sweet Disposition because I thought that song would be quite ethereal yet still pretty epic," explained Nat. "Also doing Disclosure's Silence which will be huge! Lastly, I couldn't go past doing Voodoo Child, just because I cannot wait to hear what that sounds like with a 60-piece orchestra. "
