Athletic Brewing Co's Non-Alcoholic Beers (Upside Dawn & Run Wild)

As someone who hasn't had a single sip of a beer, or any form of alcohol for that matter, in over a decade the cravings for a straight edge friendly alternative have been heating up recently. Particularly as the warmer months approach I've been looking for a tasty non-alcoholic beer alternative that I could sit back & enjoy with mates at BBQ.

After hearing a lot of mixed reviews about some of the bigger name players in the burgeoning non-alcoholic beer sector I had been hesitant to give any a shot. That was until the kind people at Athletic Brewing Co offered to send me a sample 6-pack of their products.

In this 6-pack Athletic Brewing Co provided 3 cans of their Upside Dawn & 3 cans of their Run Wild varieties.

The Upside Dawn is described on the Athletic Brewing Co website as a 'classic craft Golden Ale Style' beer. This option is a a light refreshing option, which my beer drinking brother described as reminiscent of the Summer Bright Lager. For me this option perfectly satiated the craving I was having & I was instantly thinking this was likely going to be my summer non-alcoholic beer.

I then cracked open the Run Wild varietal & was greeted with an IPA who's taste quickly reminded me of a Cooper's Pale Ale. The Run Wild didn't have that gritty aftertaste I remembered with Cooper's, so was certainly more preferable in that sense. However, the Run Wild had an uphill battle to overcome the Upside Dawn & fell slightly short for me.

Like any regular beer finding the non-alcoholic option which is right for you is going to a case of trial & error. For me though Athletic Brewing Co's Upside Dawn is going to be stocking many an esky this summer.
