Prinnie Stevens - A Christmas Spectacular

Christmas is all about bringing people together. A Christmas Spectacular will help us all get into the festive spirit this week when it arrives at Sydney's State Theatre. Starring magician Michael Boyd, a troupe of dancers & triple-threat performer Prinnie Stevens, A Christmas Spectacular will be a fun night out for all ahead of the traditional family gatherings & Christmas lunches.

Ahead of the show arriving at The State Theatre on Thursday Pario sat down with Prinnie Stevens to chat about her journey & her connection with Christmas music.

Reflecting on the discovery of her passion for music & performance Prinnie told Pario, "Basically my parents couldn't shut me up. I'm first generation but my mum moved to Australia from Tonga when she was in her 20s. She didn't grow up in a world where singing & dancing were a profession, so she really enjoyed sending me on to singing & dancing classes. I was that crazy kid that was doing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday classes of jazz, tap, ballet &singing."

Prinnie's passion is so strong that perhaps it is simply in her DNA because her 2 daughters are now showing similar signs.

"My eldest does sing but she is a bit more of a recluse than I am, she's more of a singer-songwriter," Prinnie said proudly. "My youngest is definitely that kid who is singing & dancing all the time, so it's definitely in her. I'm sure she'll be knocking on my door asking if it's her turn yet soon enough."

The Beauty Of Christmas

Although Prinnie is a regular fixture on the Sydney entertainment circuit we still wondered how she came to be involved in A Christmas Spectacular. According to Prinnie, this all came to be thanks to the connections & friendships she has built through the years.

"Michael Boyd, who is the producer & an incredible magician in the show, & I have a mutual friend in Rhonda Burchmore. So that's how we got hooked up for this show," explained Prinnie. "Michael was looking for that Mariah Carey-esque singer for the show. Just like Michael, I am all about the glitz & glamour, I love Christmas, & I love singing all of the Christmas songs. I don't shy away from a Christmas carol."

Being offered this role in A Christmas Spectacular was something that Prinnie found incredibly special, "I will be living my Mariah Carey fantasy on that stage in The State Theatre."

For Prinnie this show is special not just because she loves Christmas songs but also because of what this show signifies after a difficult period.

"Part of the joy of Christmas is that it's about bringing everybody together... We've had Christmases where we've all had to be separate which has made us all appreciate each other & moments like this so much more."

In terms of what audiences can expect from this show, Prinnie said, "This is the perfect show for Grandma to bring the grandkids & every age group in between. It's got dancing, magic, singing, Santa, elves - it's all the things you love about Christmas."
