Sophie Holloway (Burn The Floor)

In the world of dance, Sophie Holloway has carved out a niche that celebrates individuality & creativity. A star performer with the internationally renowned Burn The Floor, Holloway shared her insights & experiences in a candid interview.

A Perfect Match: Sophie & Burn The Floor

For Sophie, joining Burn The Floor was a serendipitous alignment of her diverse dance skills & the show’s inclusive ethos. “Burn The Floor celebrates... all the gifts that all of the cast members have,” she said, expressing her gratitude for being part of a production that values each performer’s unique strengths. Holloway, whose background includes jazz, musical theatre, & contemporary dance, found her versatility embraced by the company.

Reflecting on her dance journey Holloway described entry into the world of Latin dance as somewhat of a dream realised. “Latin has always been... the style of dance that I idolised because it was the one that I’d done the least training in,” she admitted to Pario. Despite her initial doubts about mastering Latin dance, Burn The Floor provided a platform where she could learn & inject her own flair. The company’s emphasis on individual strengths over rigid conformity made it an ideal environment for Holloway to thrive.

The spark that ignites Burn The Floor

The magic of Burn The Floor lies in its dynamic & inclusive approach to dance performance. Holloway described the show as a vibrant tapestry where each dancer’s fire is allowed to shine. “All of the dancers... have our own fire,” she said, highlighting the individuality celebrated within the group. The live band & Australian music further enrich the experience, creating a powerful connection with the audience.

“Every dancer kind of has their own section... where they are celebrated & all the other dancers are supporting that,” Holloway explained. This structure not only showcases the unique talents of each performer but also fosters a sense of camaraderie & mutual admiration among the cast. The collaborative process extends to choreography, where performers are encouraged to infuse their personality into the movements. “They just say if it feels good on you, it’s gonna look good,” she said, appreciating the creative freedom allowed by the show’s director, Jason Gilkison, & Associate Producer, Peta Roby.

Embracing Dreams & Aspirations

Holloway’s journey with Burn The Floor is also a testament to daring to dream big. The theme of the current show, Dare To Dream, resonates deeply with her own story.

“This was a dream for me to even be a part of this company... a dream where I literally thought, oh, that’s a fantasy for me,” shared Sophie.

Innovative approach

The show’s innovative use of non-traditional music for ballroom & Latin dance underscores its creative spirit. Holloway marvelled at how they turned unlikely songs into dance moments. “At first you may not think that that song is danceable, but then... anything’s possible,” she said, illustrating the limitless possibilities embraced by the company. This openness to experimentation & blending different dance styles reflects Holloway’s own eclectic background & enhances the show’s appeal.

Holloway’s passion for dance & commitment to her craft are evident in every performance. Her experiences with Burn The Floor have not only broadened her skills but also reaffirmed her belief in the power of artistic expression. As she continues to tour with the company, she looks forward to inspiring audiences & fellow dancers alike.

“Come & see us more than once... it’s almost a different show every time you see it,” she encouraged, emphasising the evolving nature of Burn The Floor. For Sydney dancers & theatrical performance lovers, Holloway’s story is an inspiring reminder of the beauty of pursuing one’s dreams & the joy of sharing one’s unique gifts with the world.

Burn The Floor is a testament to the power of individuality & the magic that happens when artists are allowed to truly shine.
