Tom Myers - How It's Meant To Be

Newcastle artist Tom Myers proves again that he is a master of indie-rock songwriting with his latest track How It's Meant To Be, out now. The tune follows the success that is On My Head, which saw him added to Rage and Double J spot rotation among other successes. How It's Meant To Be switches the pace from the rock riffs of previous singles to a track with a deep tenderness, both lyrically and vocally.

Speaking about the new music video Tom said, "I really wanted the video to reflect the solemnity and exasperation of the song which touches on mental health and my grieving process after the loss of a loved one, and the isolation and self reflection that follows a traumatic event. I was more drawn to shooting dramatic imagery of powerful natural landscapes instead of character development to portray this.

”The colour scheme throughout the video is something we tweaked regularly to highlight the grieving process. The first half of the video is quite dark and brooding, with the introduction of sunlight through the trees acting as a metaphor for clinging to the light at the end of the tunnel.

The video was shot and edited in various locations throughout South East Queensland by Dean Hanson of Ball Park Music."

Before pursuing a solo career, Tom was well known as the drummer for critically-acclaimed Australian indie band Papa Vs Pretty. Previous career highlights include performances at major global and national events like Lollapoolooza (Berlin, Chicago, Stockholm), Isle Of Wight, Tinderbox, Outside Lands, Osheaga, SXSW, Groovinʼ The Moo, Splendour In The Grass, 2019 AFL Grand Final, Falls Festival, Southbound, Big Day Out tour, Homebake, and Parklife.

He's also toured as a session drummer for an array of Australian artists, including Jack River, Thelma Plum and Kim Churchill. Needless to say, over the past decade he's played on enough songs to know what a great one sounds like. Hear it for yourself on the upcoming single.
