Werewolf By Night

Marvel is getting into the Halloween spirit this month with the Disney+ release of a special presentation film, Werewolf By Night.

The latest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe invites audiences to discover a new corner of the MCU when it introduces the 'dark universe'. Presented in black & white Werewolf By Night occurs during a dark & sombre night as a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows & gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. In a strange & macabre memorial to their leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious & deadly competition for a powerful relic. The hunters are then tasked with completing a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster... & battle each other for supremacy.

Werewolf By Night is easily the most violent & gory property in the MCU. Combine this gore with a dark, menacing aesthetic ensure that the film remains squarely rooted in the horror genre from which is has been inspired.

Watching Werewolf By Night it becomes clear that Director Michael Giarcchino was inspired by the Universal Monster movies of the 1930s & 1940s. The film is campy & silly but still dark, mysterious & scary (although not too terrifying for younger viewers, as long as gore isn't an issue).

Werewolf By Night is an intriguing new entry into the MCU, although it isn't an absolute must see. Presenting this film in black & white may be off-putting for some viewers but with a brisk runtime in the 40-50 minute range it is a highly enjoyable spooky season watch.
