Wrong Turn (2021)
In an attempt to reboot and refresh the six film deep Wrong Turn series the 2021 iteration sees the film ditch the 'inbred cannibals' in favour of a more political message about society and human values.
Much like the original film of 2003 this latest offering follows a group of young adults as they venture into the woods on a hiking trip only to take a deadly wrong turn and encounter a society hidden away from the rest of humanity. Compared to the original film which focused on a family of inbred cannibals this film twists that to introduce us to 'The Foundation', a society set up in the 1800s with the aim to be an equitable society where all are valued for their contributions to the group and upon which society will be rebuilt following its inevitable downfall.
By eschewing the cannibal element this film removes some of the gore but maintains its creepy, sinister tone. Overall this film slightly overstays its welcome but successfully injects new blood into the franchise.
