Have Mercy – A Place Of Our Own

Originally published on Alt Media

Emo-grunge four piece make their debut on the renowned label Hopeless Records with their highly anticipated sophomore release.

Opening with some extremely descriptive emotional lyrics, “I remember your hands at my throat, the sweet reminder that you’ll never let go”, this style is what made them stand out with the debut album The Earth Pushed Back. The band instantly puts the listener into a comfortable and easily recognised place.

The music throughout works as the prefect complement to Brian Swindle’s vocals that teeter on the edge of desperate crooning and punk screams. Many times, particularly in To Convey and Plastic Covered Furniture, the music starts off softly with vocals as the highlight before the full band joins in with heavy drum lines and chugging guitar riffs underscoring Swindle’s emotional shouts.

While Have Mercy rarely break any new ground here overall this is a well-produced record that many will relate to.
