Gal Gadot returns to reprise her role as Dianna Prince/Wonder Woman in Wonder Woman 1984, the sequel to 2017's Wonder Woman.

This time as the title suggest we meet Dianna in 1984 as she continues to use her powers to fight back against the evils of mankind. While the first Wonder Woman film centred around violence and war this time around Dianna must combat the perils of greed, which fits perfectly during the 80s era of excess.

The perils of greed are embodied in the villainous Max Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Barbara Minerva (Kirsten Wiig). Lord is a charismatic business/tv personality who wants nothing more than to see his company the Black Gold Cooperative be the most powerful entity in oil production. Whilst Minerva simply wishes to be given the recognition and power of someone like Dianna Prince. Both characters are granted their wishes when Lord comes to control the mysterious Dreamstone, and subsequently unleashes chaos across the globe.

For Dianna the Dreamstone allows for her beloved Steve Trevor to be returned to her side, however every wish comes with consequences which must be overcome.

Wonder Woman 1984 is an enjoyable return to the big screen for the beloved super heroin but it fails to surpass the 2017 interaction. In its attempts to surpass the first outing Wonder Woman 1984 becomes overly enraptured with CGI, diminishing the impact of the story, and once again falls back into the trope of the big lacklustre fight with the big bad enemy in the final moment.
