AEW Presents Worlds End: Not a Review, but a Thank You

Will Ospreay makes his entrance at AEW Worlds End 2024

As 2024 comes to a close, I was able to attend my first-ever PPV event with my crazy teenager, right in our backyard of Orlando. We started attending tapings of AEW Dark almost three years ago and have also caught a few Ring Of Honor (ROH) shows, as well as experiencing a Dynamite/Rampage taping in December 2023. Never in a million years did I expect to fall in love again with this fun sport, and I never thought my daughter would catch on to it either. But here we are, cheering for our faves, booing the people we love to hate, and trash-talking with the rest of the fans.

Rediscovering Wrestling: Nostalgia to New Beginnings

I grew up watching Sting, Big Show, Chris Jericho, Goldust, and the Hardys, but when I rediscovered wrestling, I had no idea the guys I grew up with were still having a blast in the ring 20 years later. Being able to relive the excitement I felt when I would watch wrestling on a Friday night, through my daughter’s eyes has been such a blast. She bonds with her dad over video games and conventions, and we always have had horror and makeup, but being able to trash talk to each other during matches is something I will forever have fun doing.

Going into the PPV I hadn’t told her about any of the matches, to keep the surprise going, and it paid off way better than I thought it would. The pre-show got us both amped up, we are Toni Storm stans in this house so it was a blast seeing her again! When the fireworks and pyrotechnics went off to announce the start of Worlds End, and Will Ospreay walked out for the first match, that’s when we both lost our shit. Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher have quickly become our top favourites, so seeing them face off was a treat.

Blood, Combat, and Blackpool: A Night to Remember

As crazy as this might make her sound, my kid loves any sport involving fighting and blood, so we stick to wrestling and hockey in our house. After watching almost every match in this PPV have some form of bloodshed, I knew the main event was where she was really going to lose it. When we first started watching wrestling together, we were both drawn to the Blackpool Combat Club and kiddo has been a Jon Moxley fan ever since watching Anarchy In The Area at Double Or Nothing 2022. She had no idea that Mox was in a 4-way for the main event, so to see her go absolutely crazy when the graphic came up on screen for it, was the highlight of my night. Like clockwork, when he came out, she knew he’d be tossing the water bottle and making his own path to the stage. But when Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli came out halfway through the match, that was the cherry on top, she screamed and cheered so loud, I’m lucky I can still hear out of my left ear.

This was an amazing way to end 2024, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2025.

Looking Ahead: AEW on MAX and Orlando Wrestling Dreams

With AEW content now being simulcast on MAX, I am really looking forward to revamped shows, and maybe we’ll get another opportunity for more tapings in the area. Jacksonville isn’t too far away from us, but even with another show in town, Orlando did show up and make it known that we are so excited to have more than one company to choose from for professional wrestling shows. Please, Tony, let us get some more Orlando shows, and for the love of all things, give Kris Statlander her damn flowers already, cause that girl put on one hell of a match last night too.
