In just 4 short years Victorian wrestler Royce Chambers has become one of the most talked about hot prospects on the scene. So much so that in his short career Royce has already travelled to Japan to wrestle & is now the top guy at Deathmatch Downunder (DMDU), a responsibility he is relishing.

Reflecting back on how Royce came to develop his passion & drive to succeed in professional wrestling he revealed that it has been an up & down journey. As a child Royce would occasionally watch wrestling on TV but it wasn't until he played WWF Raw on the Xbox that the passion took hold. Then like many teenage boys the allure of "women & parties" saw wrestling take a back seat in Royce's list of priories, but then one major move overseas saw Royce's interest piqued once again.

"When I was about 16-17 Chris Jericho left to go to the Tokyo Dome & I realised that there was more to wrestling than just WWE," Royce told Pario. "That's when I discovered people like Ricochet & Will Ospreay... It was pretty crazy I fell out of wrestling completed for about 4 years but then within 3-4 months I was back in the deep end training, studying & listening to podcasts everyday."

Royce began his training at PCW & quickly rose through their system before making it onto "rookie shows" in just 3 months.

"I highly recommend PCW because it's a great school to start at... in my first year I had 100 matches, which is crazy, but just getting into the ring to get the reps in is so important. Even if some of those 'shows' are just in front of 10-15 people, when you're starting it's really good to get those reps in."

When asked how he was able to excel so quickly in the art of professional wrestling Royce was quick to credit his parents, "I am very athletically gifted, so I can thank my Mum & Dad for that. But also, I think I put in a lot of work early on by training 3 or 4 nights per week plus going to the gym."

From there it was simply a matter of timing in choosing when to branch out to new places. Moves which ultimately led to Royce heading to Japan to wrestle for DDT at just 19 years old.

"The experience was great. I had 6-7 matches, which is really good over a 3 week span. I learnt a bunch."

Those lessons will be vital as Royce now leads DMDU into their next phase as their Heavyweight Champion.

"I had never won a singles belt before. So to get that opportunity & know that I am 'the man' at that company was big. I'm the champ & have to do everything I can to get more eyes on not just myself but the company as a whole, which is a responsibility that I have wanted for a while... I've just got to prove to people now that I am legitimately one of the top wrestlers in the country & can carry a company as such. DMDU are getting the best of the best in for shows every month, so it's a great opportunity to be at the forefront of that & see what challengers I get. I'm sure there'll be some interesting ones."

Looking further ahead Royce is also hoping to help lead Australian wrestling into a new age where Australian wrestlers can make a full-time living here rather than behind forced to go abroad.

"By the time I leave wrestling I want there to be a kid thinking I want to be a wrestler & I don't have to leave my friends & family to do so."
