Anyone But You
And just like a broken record, I yet again sit here to write about a Euphoria star making a splash on the big screen - This time to the tune of Sydney Sweeney (let’s face it, our favourite star of the hit HBO series). Sweeney stars alongside Top Gun: Maverick heartthrob Glen Powell in Will Gluck’s just-in-time-for-summer romcom, Anyone But You.
Shot on location in the world’s best city (Sydney, Australia for those playing at home), it follows the ‘it’s complicated’ situation-ship of Beatrice (Sweeney) & Ben (Powell), who find themselves forced to awkwardly reacquaint following a previous fling, that didn’t end all too well, at the dream destination wedding of two family friends.
To ensure celebrations run smoothly for the newlyweds & to avoid a wedding disaster, Ben & Bea form a pact together to pretend to be the ‘perfect loving couple’. While putting on this façade they continue to find themselves catching flashes of real-life feelings & genuine connection, much of what brought the two of them together in the first place. But with some unexpected wedding guests each of them would have rather not run into, it makes the already complicated situation become quite the nightmare.
With no shortage of painfully cliché Aussie humour & the cheeky adult-only antics everyone hopes to find in a romantic comedy, Anyone But You is the fun summer film we all needed to clear the air after a huge year of cinema. Not to mention the perfect postcard movie that will leave you wanting to book your next trip to the harbour city in an instant.
