Bodies Bodies Bodies
Let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor!
Before we continue any further with this review of A24's Bodies Bodies Bodies I feel obliged to quickly issue a TRIGGER WARNING because this fill will undoubtedly set woke culture ablaze. This horror-comedy about a group of Gen-Z rich kids hosting a hurricane party in a mansion quickly & repeatedly pokes at the absurdity of woke culture & modern teen life.
While holed up in mansion during a hurricane this group of entitled kids soon find they are stabbing each other in the back, both figuratively & literally, as the bodies begins to drop in the darkness. Thus setting in motion a real life game of whodunit as the group attempts to discover who the murderer is before they are all done away with.
Each of the characters in Bodies Bodies Bodies is a cliché of modern teen & influencer life. There's the recovering addict (Amandla Stenberg), her new girlfriend & an outsider to the group (Maria Bakalova), the rich boy hosting the party (Pete Davidson), an actress (Chase Sui Wonders), the bitchy girl (Myha'la Herrold), podcaster Alice (Rachel Sennott), then finally Alice's new & much older Tinder boyfriend (Lee Pace). All of the characters have their standout moments throughout the film but the Maria Bakalova & Rachel Sennott draw the majority of the spotlight with their performances.
Once the action begins rolling Bodies Bodies Bodies is a chaotic, frenzied, cringy & occasionally laugh out loud movie. At times it feels like the script was written simply by taking quotes from Twitter or the internet, while these are jarring when they occur it strangely works & drives home the premise of poking fun at woke culture.
Much like the TikTok videos it makes fun of Bodies Bodies Bodies is unlikely to age very well so you'll want to catch this one early if you have any interest in it. For those that do venture out to watch this one go in with an open mind but be prepared to cringe as you enjoy the goofy ride the film takes you on.
