Cameron Reynolds (CR Swim

Swimming is an integral part of Australian culture. What initially begins as an essential life skill can quickly develop into a leisure activity, a fitness regime or even a competitive pursuit. Regardless of how you view swimming, it requires a passion, & swim coach Cameron Reynolds of CR Swim certainly has that passion.

Cameron first began swimming at the age of 5 & has since gone on to hold multiple State & Masters titles. In recent years though his desire to spend 10 sessions per week in the pool training has waned, but his passion for the water remains as strong as ever. So, he is instead channelling that passion through his coaching business in the Southern Highlands.

"Being a teacher & doing all of the school swimming carnivals I realised just how special my passion for the water was, so I wanted other kids to have that passion as well," explained Cameron. "I wanted to help establish a strong swimming community in the Southern Highlands by providing a coach that swimmers enjoyed coming to train with."

CR Swim is not just for competitive swimmers though. The swim squad that Cameron has established includes people from all walks of life & all levels of swimming.

"We've got a nice little squad coming together," said Cameron, before going into more detail. "Michael had never done a swimming lesson in his life, but at 67 decided that it was time to get in the water & is still going strong. I even have an Olympic equestrian hopeful who uses swimming to supplement his training."

According to Cameron witnessing his squad improving now brings him an even greater sense of accomplishment than he had when he was competing. "You can almost get a bit emotional seeing them succeed because you ride that roller coaster with them."

Establishing a swim squad in the Southern Highlands has not come without its challenges. Particularly in the cold winter months, as the outdoor public pools close for the season. At one point the squad were unsure if they would even have access to a pool at all over winter. Thankfully a solution was found, "we've been lucky to find an outdoor pool that is heated to 30 degrees for winter."

Bearing these challenges in mind Cameron's grand vision is to eventually open a CR Swim Centre.

"Access to elite swim coaches & programs just isn't there in the regional & rural areas, so my dream is to establish CR Swim Centres in those areas to help build their swimming communities."
