If you think TikTok is just for dance challenges and lip-syncing, Jaxon Carr is here to prove you wrong. This Sydney-based pub enthusiast has carved out a niche reviewing pubs, & his genuine passion for the local hospitality scene has made him a hit on social media.

Jaxon Carr didn’t start on TikTok with pub reviews in mind. His journey into the world of short-form video content began with something much more conventional - vlogs & fitness content. “I was using TikTok for work stuff at first,” Jaxon told Pario, but when he started to share his personal interests his following exploded. By honing in on his love for pubs, Jaxon quickly amassed around 5,000 followers in just four months.

Love To Have A Beer With...

Jaxon’s experience underscores the importance of finding a niche. “It’s important to stick to what you know and love,” he said, explaining that his authentic interest in pubs helped him stand out in the crowded TikTok landscape. While many creators chase trends or try to appeal to everyone, Carr has found success by focusing on a subject that genuinely excites him - Sydney’s pubs.

In particular, Jaxon enjoys reviewing small, family-owned establishments, which he feels offer a more authentic experience than those owned by large corporations. “I’ve always preferred a little, family-owned pub to the big ones owned by groups,” said Carr. “When I turned my focus on to those pubs, that’s when I started to grow. I think I gained around 5,000 followers in the following four months.”

His straightforward approach - highlighting the unique aspects of each pub, whether it’s the ambience, the customer service, or the quality of the food & drinks - has helped Jaxon build a connection with his audience. An audience that Jaxon has fostered by being engaging & encouraging comments/suggestions of future pubs to review.

“My whole angle with this has been replying to people's comments, which then encourages more people to comment,” explained Carr. “What I love about encouraging people to comment is that people are so passionate about the pubs that they like, so they're going to give you a good pub to go to. And that's why I know I will never get a bad one!”

The Secret Sauce

For Jaxon, the secret sauce behind his success isn’t just in finding the right niche - it’s about being genuinely passionate about what you’re doing because “people can tell if you’re not being real.”

For Carr, staying true to his interests & being genuine in his reviews has been crucial, “I love pubs. I love the hospitality industry. And I think people can tell that I’m not just doing this for the views,” he said. He believes that audiences are drawn to content that feels real and passionate, rather than something that’s just been churned out to follow a trend.

“I've worked in hospitality for 10 years, but I’ve missed the pub side of things. I know I’m nothing big & I know I'm not doing God's work, but I just feel like I'm kind of giving back... I’m not expecting anything from it, it's just nice to give back & show some love.”

Refreshing The Menu

While TikTok is where Carr’s pub reviews took off, his content has continued to evolve. As such, he’s not limiting himself to just one platform, so he’s been exploring new ways to reach his audience. “I’ve started to think about other platforms like Instagram & maybe even YouTube,” he said. This adaptability is another lesson for creators, as being willing to evolve & diversify your content can open up new opportunities.

Carr’s journey also highlights the importance of staying inspired. “I watch a lot of other creators to get ideas,” he mentioned. This openness to learning from others has helped him keep his content fresh & exciting. As he expands his presence on other platforms, Jaxon is excited about the possibilities, but he’s clear that any expansion will stay true to his core values of authenticity & niche focus.

“I’ll stick to what I love, & I think that’s what people appreciate.”
