Kayleigh Morgan - Periphery
Throughout all of our lifetimes we will face both internal & external battles. For many of us these battles are fought & conquered alone, but for singer-songwriter Kayleigh Morgan these battles inspired her to create her latest EP, Periphery.
Across its 4 tracks Periphery weaves elements of acoustic folk with traditional country & just a dash of punk-rock. Kayleigh's unique twist on these genres creates an EP which is a captivatingly beautiful listen - so much so 4 tracks is simply not enough. Whilst listening to Periphery for this review we had the EP on repeat as we listened over & over throughout the day.
Despite the EP only consisting of 4 tracks Kayleigh has densely packed Periphery with meaning & storytelling. As we mentioned in the opening of this review the EP is all about internal & externals battles. The EP opens with an internal battle that all creatives know oh too well, the push & pull between an artist & their art. As Periphery continues we hear Kayleigh touch on the inner battle of one's own sexuality, love lost & finally the external battle with sexism that society as a whole still struggles with.
Periphery is a rich tapestry of elements which all come together so seamlessly to create something truly special. Upon each subsequent listen you will pick up more layers & meaning hidden within the tracks. Kayleigh has proven to be a special artist with this EP, so we now wait with bated breath for a full length album release.
