Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology
Taylor Swift has done it again. As if she wasn’t already one of the most recognised names in the music industry, she’s continuing to impress her fans & bring in new ones with each new album release. Welcome to The Tortured Poets Department era.
In her 11th studio album, we were treated to not 1 but 2 full-length albums on release day. The Tourtured Poets Department features 16 tracks & as a bonus, the alternate version of this album, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, has an additional 15 songs.
The first song on the album, Fortnight (feat. Post Malone), became the most streamed song in a day on Spotify & the album itself also broke Spotify’s record for the most streamed album in a single day. Call me biased, but my favourite song on this album is Florida!!! (feat. Florence + The Machine). This song is the only other song on this album to feature another artist & should really be my state’s new anthem.
Taylor has received backlash from multiple outlets, with parents outraged about her use of explicit language and more adult-themed songs. This album does have some of the breakup songs that she’s well known for on it however, much like she has matured and grown up, so has her music. Another controversial song that has the internet buzzing is speculated to be about Kim Kardashian herself and all I can say to that is “thanK you aIMee”, IYKYK. Fans and critics will interpret songs how they wish, but only Taylor - & maybe Travis Kelce, will ever really know who or what each song is about or directed towards.
After being a longtime listener, I can say this is another album I’ve had on repeat since it was released. Is it my favourite album that she’s released? No. But it’s still a solid 5 stars from me. Taylor might not be for everyone, but if you’re in the market for something out of your norm, I’d recommend checking this out or skimming over a few songs to see if you can be converted to a Swifty.
