Wanderer Festival

Festival Organiser, Simon Daly

Australia has been known for its music festivals throughout the years. From the father of them all Big Day Out right through to the iconic Tamworth Country Music Festival, Groovin' The Moo, Listen Out & even Falls Festival. However, nothing has captured the imagination quite like the newcomer, Wanderer Festival.

With a lineup of over 70 artists encompassing a world-class program of music, art, comedy, theatre, circus and artisan workshops over three unforgettable days and nights Wanderer offers a watershed new genre of boutique music festival. Set in the pristine location of Pambula Beach this festival is a truly multi-generational experience that welcomes traditional festival goers as well as families.

When Wanderer Festival debuted in 2022 on the New South Wales Sapphire Coast it captured the hearts of the local community. Not only does Wanderer Festival feature a rich array of musical acts but it also has a large contingent of arts practitioners from all fields of creativity. Something which is of great importance to festival organiser Simon Daly.

"Wanderer to me is a festival that is truly inclusive whether it be audience or programming," Daly told Pario before explaining further. "The arts give a festival depth & allow us to be unique. As our arts programmer forever says his bookings 'won't sell a ticket by name', and while that might be true, it's a guarantee that everyone will walk away with a new favourite act! Whether you're in your 20s or 50s or a family you will feel completely that Wanderer is for you, the layout & programming speaks to this vision."

WHY THE SAPPHIRE COAST?

Before we continue any further you might be asking yourself, why did Daly choose Pambula Beach on the Sapphire Coast to host Wanderer Festival? We too were wondering this, so we simply asked & Simon answered.

"After moving to Pambula it was striking how friendly the people are & the beauty of the area at every turn. But also, how hard the community has been hit with two consecutive years of bushfires then COVID coupled with the fact there had never been a festival of Wanderer's scale in the area."

2023 Music Lineup

This year Wanderer Festival will once again welcome music acts from around the globe.

Headlining the festival are Australia's own; Ocean Alley, Thelma Plum, Spiderbait, & Lisa Mitchell. Joining them from around the globe will be; Django Django from the UK as well as Kevin Morby & Son Little from the USA.

Pario recently spoke with Lisa Mitchel about her inclusion on the Wanderer Festival lineup.

"I wanted to be involved in Wanderer for so many reasons!" Lisa said with great excitement. "The gorgeous Sapphire Coast location, the family-friendly all-ages-vibe & the incredible lineup!"

During our chat with Lisa, the unique all-ages & all arts focus of Wanderer stood out as a major factor in her decision to join the festival.

"Live music is what life is all about & having spaces where children can access the magic of live music is deeply important to me! Especially now that I have a 1-year-old son!"

Living by example Lisa revealed that both her 1-year-old son & partner will be joining her in Pambula to take in the festival & its surrounds.

"My 1-year-old son, Cadence, will be with Danny and I, and we are looking forward to hitting the beach!"

2023 Arts Lineup

Complementing the music lineup will be a great mixture of artists from a variety of fields. The festival is set to welcome the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, the Bioluminescence Project, comedians Claire Hooper & Tom Ballard, & Indigenous dance groups Duurunu Miri Dancers & Gulaga Dancers.

In regards to what festivalgoers can expect from the arts program, the Bioluminescence Project will offer young people in the region the opportunity to connect with their environment, develop practical skills & knowledge & share their art with the community.

Led by Warren Ngarrae Foster, the Gulaga Dancers is a nationally recognised dance troupe that has continued the strong Djiringanj tradition of honouring the land and nature through dance and artistic connection.
