Kingswood's 5 Most Influential Films

To celebrate the release of their latest single, Good Whisky, which was heavily inspired by film, we sat down with Kingswood to discuss their 5 most influential films.

STAND BY ME

"I never had friends later on in life like the ones I had when I was twelve". This film is such an honest and realistic coming-of-age story, wrapped in adventure, death, and grief. It resonates deeply with me and is probably my favourite movie. The soundtrack is superb and the feeling of the whole experience is a tone I hope to capture in a song or an album.

PHANTOM THREAD

This film explores the power and complexity of love finding a way in a storm of troubling phycological imbalance. We all develop and manage forms of what you may call neurosis. And we try to weave these battles into the perspectives embodied in our songs. It is a very good film.

DJANGO UNCHAINED

The musical equivalent to this film would be some form of alt-thrash western. Now that's getting close to describing our new direction. It is honest, raw, funny, action-packed, and full of exhilarating characters fighting to the death for love and good.

INTERSTELLAR

When Cooper returns to his ship from a planet with a time relativity where 1 hour is 7 Earth years, he watches videos sent from his young daughter who is now well into her 30s. I fucking lose it every time. To create a work of art that can tear you apart like that is supremely admirable. It is something we aspire to produce, art that makes you feel deeply.

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS

We love this film, it takes to you a period and place where great art was exploding and so many artists gathered to draw from one another in mostly healthy admiration and competition. The premise is whimsical and fun, the protagonist is a romantic, a dreamer, and an optimist who floats like a leaf in the wind, and I relate to that character greatly.
