Creative inspiration can strike at any moment & often comes from the most unexpected of sources. For Victorian musician Rainie Zenith the source of inspiration for her new single Reasons To Hate Me came after learning that she is autistic. Pario recently spoke with Rainie about this experience & how she has channelled her autism into her creative passions.

Every single day Rainie finds a way to tap into her creative energies - be that through writing fiction novels or short stories, writing poems or, as was the case with Reasons To Hate Me, writing music. As Rainie explained perhaps this is due to her autism & the unique way in which her brain functions, but put simply she says "I think I'd go nuts if I couldn't be creative in some capacity."

In regards to how she came to write Reasons To Hate Me the journey began when her psychologist suggested that Rainie may have some autistic traits. Upon hearing this Rainie took it upon herself to do some research, which quickly gave her an explanation for many of her experiences. Eventually Rainie undertook an official autism assessment, which determined she had ASD1, formerly known as Asperger's Syndrome. So from there Rainie turned to her creativity to express how she was feeling about receiving this information while also hoping to create more understanding within the wider community.

"There are 2 big messages in Reasons To Hate Me," explained Rainie. "Firstly, the song is about not being judgmental... I might do these odd little things but do you really want to hate me over that? It's all so trivial. Then secondly, the other message being that you should just be yourself even if people are going to have a judgemental attitude."

By being so open about autism through her creativity Pario asked Rainie if she felt like she could become a role model for others with autism.

"Yeah possibly, but I would also hope that it goes a bit wider than that," Rainie answered quickly. "I want anyone who is feeling a bit different or judged by others to look to me & realise they can still do the things they want to regardless of what anybody else thinks."

Finally in closing given that Rainie discovered she was autistic as an adult, who had already been quite profiling creatively, we wondered if she ever reflected on past works & discovered that subconsciously she had already been creative autism influenced art.

"Writing wise without even knowing it at the time I have written autistic characters in my stories," said Rainie. "Then in terms of music there are definitely other songs that I've written, or that are still in the works, that are influenced by autism."

For anybody wanting to experience Rainie's music live she will be hosting an official launch event for Reasons To Hate Me at the Workers Club in Fitzroy on August 7. A show which according to Rainie is all about getting people to "have a really good time & to generally just feel good."
